The cover of this week's Santa Barbara Independent (June 16-23, 2011, Vol. 25, No. 283) features not only LCOGT, but how Santa Barbara is rising “to become a center of the astronomy universe.” (from the cover of the SB Independent).
Inside this issue of the weekly paper contains a two-page interview with Wayne Rosing about LCOGT including some history of the project and where we are headed in terms of technology (Rosing is quoted saying that “other than NASA, we're the only people who can do this.”), science, and education. Beautiful images taken by B.J. Fulton accompany the article. Also included is a side note about a very important Friday afternoon tradition, Happy Hour at a local lounge.
Also included in this issue are a section about the Santa Barbara Astronomical Unit (one of the top astronomy clubs in the world), the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History's Gladwin Planetarium, the Santa Barbara Instrument Group (SBIG), a description of some interesting things to look at in the summer sky, plus a link to more stories on their website including Westmont's Keck Observatory and UCSB's astrophysics and cosmology groups.
