Las Cumbres Observatory supports education programs all over the world through its Global Sky Partners program. Mission Platinum is a new Global Sky Partner based in India that includes 2,000 high school students. Last week students from 25 schools in India and 6 in the United Kingdom participated in a deep space exploration exercise, with telescope time provided by LCO. The students took approximately 4,000 images on LCO, which were observed in record time – it took around 4 days for all of the images to be compiled. Later in June these images will be voted on and the best will be presented to the UK High Commissioner. This exercise was part of the world record attempt for the largest astronomy lesson ever and celebrated the UK Queen’s platinum jubilee. Please read about the event here in The Times of India.
