M31

The Andromeda Galaxy (M31) is the closest spiral type of galaxy to us. It is very similar in appearance to our own Milky Way galaxy. M31 is large of the field of view of LCO telescopes, so you are just seeing the very core of the galaxy. Dust and gas can be seen surrounding this central part. The stars seen in this image are much closer, in our own galaxy.
