Caldwell 69 (NGC 6302) is commonly known as the ‘Butterfly Nebula’ and was discovered in 1826 by William Herschel. It is located 4,000 light years away from Earth in the Scorpius constellation and has an apparent magnitude of 9.5. Being a planetary nebula, it was formed by a Sun-like star that exhausted its fuel and started violently ejecting its atmospheres.
